The upcoming anime adaptation of Megumi Hatakenaka’s “Shabake” novel series is generating significant buzz, with the release of a thrilling climax promotional video. The series, which will consist of 13 episodes, has already aired its 10th episode, leaving fans eager for the remaining installments.
The promotional video, which began streaming on Wednesday, offers a tantalizing glimpse into the final episodes of the series. The Blu-ray Disc releases have confirmed that the anime will conclude with 13 episodes in total.
“Shabake” made its debut in Japan on October 3, airing on Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block. The series is also available exclusively in Japan on Prime Video. Internationally, Crunchyroll is streaming the anime as it airs, providing viewers with the following synopsis:
“Ichitaro, the young master of Nagasakiya, one of Japan’s top commercial stores during the Edo period, was born with a weak constitution that leaves him unable to go out much. He is always surrounded by his spirit companions, including a Hakutaku and an Inugami, who protect him. One night, Ichitaro steps outside and witnesses a murder, and from that day onward, bizarre murder cases keep happening all over Edo. So with the help of the spirits, Ichitaro’s hunt for the culprit begins!”
The anime features a talented cast and crew, including:

The “Shabake” series has a rich history, with the first novel debuting in 2001. Since then, numerous sequel novels have been released, and the series has inspired various adaptations, including live-action television series, manga, radio plays, stage plays, stage musicals, and picture books. A net anime adaptation of the novels streamed in July 2021, featuring a different cast and staff from the upcoming adaptation.
The novels have achieved remarkable success, with over 10 million copies in circulation. Additionally, Hatakenaka’s “We Rent Tsukumogami” novels inspired a television anime that aired in July 2018.
