Exploring the Next Adventure: Pokémon Horizons Anime Unveils New Storyline in Exclusive Trailer

The Pokémon: Horizons anime team has unveiled an exciting trailer for their upcoming arc, “Rising Again.” This new chapter promises to take viewers on a thrilling journey as the characters venture into Blueberry Academy, a setting first introduced in “The Indigo Disk” DLC from the Pokémon Scarlet/Violet games. The trailer showcases the new opening theme song, “Iolite,” performed by Eve. Unfortunately, the video is currently only available for viewing in Japan.

The new arc is set to begin on October 31, introducing several new cast members. Seiran Kobayashi will voice Lacey (Taro), Hiroyuki Yoshino will portray Drayton (Kakitsubata), and Shinya Ōwada will bring Cyrano (Cyano in Japanese) to life. Lacey and Drayton are members of the BB League’s Elite Four, while Cyrano serves as the director of Blueberry Academy. Additionally, Polkadot Stingray will perform the new ending theme song, “Netemo Sametemo” (Whether Asleep or Awake).

The Pokémon: Horizons anime first aired in Japan in April 2023 with a special one-hour premiere. The show airs weekly on Fridays at 6:55 p.m. JST. The second arc, “Terapagos no Kagayaki” (The Brilliance of Terapagos), kicked off with its 29th episode in October 2023. The “Terastal Debut” arc debuted in April 2024, and the fourth arc, which featured characters from Kitakami, a location in “The Teal Mask” expansion for the Pokémon Scarlet/Violet games, began last October.

The anime centers around new dual protagonists, Liko and Roy, and features Pokémon such as Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly from the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet video games. It also introduces the Legendary Pokémon Rayquaza in its Shiny form, along with new characters Friede and Captain Pikachu, who are a Pokémon professor and partner duo battling alongside Liko and Roy.

Saori Den, known for Mirage Queen Prefers Circus, is directing the anime, while Daiki Tomiyasu, who has worked on Pokémon Sun & Moon and Pocket Monster Mezase Pokémon Master, serves as the creative director. Dai Satō, renowned for his work on Eureka Seven, Wolf’s Rain, Samurai Champloo, and Cowboy Bebop, is overseeing the series scripts. Tetsuo Yajima is the action director, Rei Yamazaki is the character designer, and Kyōko Itō is the sub-character designer. Masafumi Mima is the sound director, and Conisch is composing the music.

The Pokémon Company had initially announced that the anime would debut on Netflix in the U.S. in February 2024, but it actually premiered in March 2024. Netflix streamed Pokémon Horizons: The Series—The Search for Laqua on February 7, with the third part beginning on June 27.

The Pokémon Scarlet/Violet games were released worldwide on Nintendo Switch in November 2022. “The Indigo Disk,” the second part of the DLC, launched in December 2023, while “The Teal Mask,” the first DLC, was released in September 2023. Additionally, Pokémon Legends Z-A launched for Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on October 16.
