Hige Dandism to Perform Opening Theme for The Darwin Incident Anime

The upcoming television anime adaptation of Shun Umezawa’s manga, The Darwin Incident, has announced an exciting addition to its lineup. The official website revealed that the rock band HIGE DANDISM will be performing the opening theme song, titled “Make Me Wonder.” The track is set to debut digitally on December 29, just in time for the holiday season.

Fans can look forward to the anime’s premiere in January 2026, which will air on TV Tokyo and its affiliated networks. The series promises a compelling narrative and a talented cast, including:

  • Atsumi Tanezaki as Charlie
  • Mitsuho Kambe as Lucy Eldred
  • Akio Otsuka as Rivera Feyerabend

The production team behind The Darwin Incident is equally impressive. Naokatsu Tsuda, known for his work on JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, will direct the anime at BELLNOX FILMS. Katsuichi Nakayama, who contributed to Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time, serves as the series director. Shinichi Inotsume, who worked on PERSONA 5 the Animation, will handle the series scripts. Character design is in the capable hands of Shinpei Tomooka, who previously worked on BUILD-DIVIDE -#000000- CODE BLACK. The music will be composed by Arisa Okehazama and Mariko Horikawa, with Yoshikazu Iwanami, known for his work on Ajin and Fate/Zero, serving as the sound director.

The story of The Darwin Incident revolves around Charlie, a half-human, half-chimpanzee hybrid known as a “Humanzee.” Raised by adoptive human parents, Charlie’s life takes a dramatic turn when animal rights extremists, who previously freed his mother from a lab, resurface with sinister intentions. The manga, which launched in 2020, has garnered critical acclaim, winning the 15th Manga Taisho Awards and an Excellence Award in the Manga Division of the Japanese government’s Ministry of Cultural Affairs’ Japan Media Arts Festival Awards in 2022. It also ranked at #10 for manga for male readers in the 2022 edition of Takarajimasha’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guidebook.

The anime adaptation is poised to bring this captivating story to life, with a talented cast and crew ensuring a high-quality production. Fans of the manga and newcomers alike will have much to look forward to when The Darwin Incident hits the screens in January 2026.
