The story of “20 Seiki Denki Mokuroku” unfolds in the summer of 1907, during the 40th year of the Meiji era. Fifteen-year-old Inako Momokawa lives in the Fushimi district of Kyoto and is the second daughter of a sake brewer. Despite her best efforts, nothing she does seems to go right, and she faces daily scoldings from her father. Her only solace comes from her faith in the gods. One day, while visiting the Fushimi Inari Shrine, she encounters Kihachi Sakamoto, a free-spirited young man who rejects the gods and boasts about the impending age of electricity.
When the topic of marriage arises in Inako’s household, her father makes all the decisions, leaving her feeling hopeless. Kihachi helps her realize her true feelings and her desire to escape her family’s control. To prevent the marriage, they must find an unusual book called the “Electrical Catalog,” which Kihachi wrote as a child. The book, which predicts the future of electricity, was taken by his older brother Seiroku, and its current location is unknown. Together, Inako and Kihachi embark on a journey across Kyoto and Shiga prefectures to find the book.
Kyoto Animation has launched an English website for the anime.
