Magical Girl Reboot Anime Reveals First Trailer and Ending Theme Performers

The team behind the anime adaptation of Asari Endo’s light novel series, “Magical Girl Raising Project Restart,” has unveiled the first promotional video, teaser visual, and the musical act performing the ending theme song. The ending theme, titled “ReMind,” will be performed by Daisyร—Daisy.

The teaser visual for the anime was created by the original character designer, Maruino.

The anime is set to premiere in 2026 and will feature a new animation studio, Synergy SP, replacing Lerche, which animated the previous series. The studio is known for its high-quality animation and attention to detail, which is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the series.

Nao Toyama will reprise her role as Snow White, a character who first appeared in the original anime. The series will also see the return of Hiroyuki Hashimoto as the director and Takao Yoshioka as the scriptwriter. Masako Itou, known for her work on the “SD” character designs, will be designing the characters for the new anime based on the original designs by Maruino. Satoki Iida will return as the sound director.

Minori Chihara will perform the anime’s opening theme song, “No Tears Here,” adding another layer of excitement for fans of the series.

The franchise’s X (formerly Twitter) account teased in 2023 that various initiatives are in the works for “Project Restart,” hinting at the ongoing development and expansion of the series.

The original light novel series, “Maho Shojo Ikusei Keikaku,” is set in a world where a social game allows one in tens of thousands of people to become a “magical girl” with extraordinary abilities. However, a district containing 16 magical girls faces a dire situation when the administration announces it must halve their numbers, leading to a murderous battle for survival.

Endo launched the original light novel series through Takarajimasha’s Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! Bunko imprint in June 2012. The 18th volume was published in November 2023. The second and third light novel volumes, published in November and December 2012, cover the “Restart” arc. Yen Press began publishing the novel series in English in June 2017.

The manga adaptation of the “Restart” arc, illustrated by Nori-Senbei, was launched in Kadokawa’s Monthly Comp Ace magazine in 2016. Kadokawa published one volume in September 2016.

The first 12-episode “Magical Girl Raising Project” anime premiered in Japan on the AT-X channel on October 1, 2016, and was streamed by Crunchyroll as it aired.

Hashimoto reported in December 2016 that a sequel had not been decided at that time, a week after the first anime ended.
