Mrs. Green Apple to Perform Opening Theme for Frieren Season 2 Anime

The highly anticipated second season of the anime adaptation of Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe’s manga series, “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End,” is set to premiere on January 16. The announcement was accompanied by the release of the main promotional video, which features the opening theme song “lulu” performed by Mrs. Green Apple.

The video includes English subtitles that viewers can toggle on or off. Additionally, the staff revealed that Kazuhiko Inoue will voice the character known as the Southern Hero.

The second season will air on NTV’s “Friday Anime Night” programming block every Friday at 11:00 p.m. JST. Crunchyroll will stream the second season globally, excluding Asia but including India and the Indian subcontinent.

Milet will perform the ending theme song “The Story of Us,” which was specifically written for the anime. Milet also performed the ending theme for the first season.

The production team for the second season includes several notable changes. Tomoya Kitagawa, who directed episodes 2, 8, and 25 of the first season, will take over as the director. Keiichiro Saito, the director of the first season, will now provide director support. Daiki Harashina, who directed the third episode of the first season, will serve as the assistant director. Tomohiro Suzuki returns for series composition.

The character designers for the anime have been updated to include Takasemaru, Keisuke Kojima, and Yuri Fujinaka, replacing Reiko Nagasawa. Seiko Yoshioka returns for concept art, and Evan Call will compose the soundtrack. Madhouse will animate the second season.

The first season of “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End” premiered with a two-hour special in September 2023 and ran for two consecutive cours until March 2024. Crunchyroll streamed the first season as it aired and also provided an English dub.

The manga series, which the anime is based on, was launched in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in April 2020. The series is currently on an indefinite hiatus that began on October 22, allowing creators Yamada and Abe to focus on their health and consider adjusting the serialization pace. The manga’s 15th volume was released on December 18.

The manga has achieved significant success, exceeding 30 million copies in circulation worldwide.
