“Goodbye, Lara” is set to premiere in 2026, offering a fresh take on the classic tale of “The Little Mermaid” by Hans Christian Andersen. The story follows a mermaid who makes a forbidden wish to be loved by a human. After her death, she is reborn 200 years later in modern-day Japan, specifically in Lake Biwa, where she navigates the complexities of human life. The choice of Lake Biwa as the setting is particularly significant, as it is located in Shiga prefecture, the hometown of director Takushi Koide.
Takushi Koide is at the helm of the series, directing it at Kinema Citrus. Anna Kawahara is overseeing the series scripts, while Shiori Tani is the character designer. Yuma Yamaguchi will compose the music, ensuring a rich and immersive auditory experience.
