The upcoming anime film adaptation of Nowaki Fukamidori’s fantasy novel “Whoever Steals This Book” has unveiled a new trailer, showcasing its cast, additional staff members, the theme song, and a captivating key visual. This highly anticipated film is set to hit theaters on December 26.
The trailer offers a sneak peek into the enchanting theme song “Share,” performed by the talented vocalist YUKI, formerly of the popular band Judy and Mary. The song sets the tone for the magical adventure that awaits viewers.
The film’s official website has also revealed the key visual, which beautifully captures the essence of the story. The cast includes a talented ensemble of voice actors who will bring the characters to life. The newly announced staff members include industry veterans who have contributed to some of the most beloved anime series.
The film is directed by Daisei Fukuoka, known for his work on the “Radiant” series and “Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak High School: Despair Arc” and Future Arc. The script is penned by Yasuhiro Nakanishi, who has worked on “Kaguya-sama: Love is War” and “No Longer Allowed In Another World.” Character design and animation direction are handled by Keiko Kurosawa, renowned for her work on “Astra Lost in Space” and “Asobi Asobase -workshop of fun-.” The music is composed by Michiru Oshima, who has contributed to “Fullmetal Alchemist” and “Little Witch Academia.” The animation producer is Yūji Higa, the founder of Kagokan, and the film is distributed by Kadokawa Animation.
The story revolves around Mifuyu, a high school student who lives in a vast library known as Mikura Hall, filled with books left by her great-grandfather. When several books are stolen, triggering an ancient curse, the town transforms according to the various stories within the books. Mifuyu, with the help of a mysterious girl named Mashiro, embarks on an adventure through different story worlds to catch the thief and restore order.
The novel was first published by Kadokawa in 2020 and has since gained a significant following. A manga adaptation by Kakeru Sora was serialized in Kadokawa’s “Young Ace” magazine from December 2021 to March 2023. Yen Press released the manga’s three compiled book volumes in English. Additionally, Kadokawa published a spinoff novel titled “Fantasy Sea” in May 2023.
The film promises to be a visual and narrative treat for fans of fantasy and adventure. With its stellar cast and crew, “Whoever Steals This Book” is poised to be one of the must-watch anime films of the year.
