Revue Starlight Anime Sequel Announced by Kinema Citrus

Revue Starlight Anime Sequel Announced by Kinema Citrus

In an exciting turn of events, the Starlight Project is celebrating its 9th anniversary with a special exhibition this summer. This announcement comes hot on the heels of the “Cardfight!! Vanguard 15th Anniversary: Bushiroad New Year Announcements 2026” event, which revealed that a brand-new animated sequel in the Starlight Project franchise is in the works at Kinema Citrus. The franchise teased the upcoming production with the intriguing title “Someday, ___ will reach someone.”

The Starlight Project, a beloved franchise, was initially unveiled by Bushiroad in April 2017. It kicked off with a stage musical and a television anime project. The musical, “Shōjo☆Kageki Revue Starlight The LIVE,” debuted in Tokyo in September 2017, blending the worlds of musical theater and live concerts. The 12-episode television anime series premiered in July 2018 and was streamed on HIDIVE with both English subtitles and a full English dub.

The franchise has since expanded to include a mini anime titled “Shōjo☆Konto All Starlight,” which premiered in July 2019. This mini series added a comedic twist to the Starlight universe. Additionally, the franchise has seen the release of a compilation film, “Shōjo☆Kageki Revue Starlight Rondo Rondo Rondo,” which opened in August 2020 after being postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film “Revue Starlight The Movie,” which continues the story from the compilation film, opened in Japan in June 2021. It was screened in select North American theaters in June 2022 and began streaming on HIDIVE in August 2022.

The Starlight Project has also made its mark in the manga world. Sora Gotō and Kanata Nakamura launched the first manga, “Shōjo☆Kageki Revue Starlight Overture,” in Kadokawa’s Dengeki G’s Comic magazine in January 2018. The manga concluded in October 2018. The franchise includes other manga adaptations such as “Butai Shōjo☆Kageki Revue Starlight – The LIVE – SHOW MUST GO ON” and “Yonkoma Starlight.”

Fans of the franchise can also enjoy the smartphone game “Revue Starlight Re LIVE,” which launched worldwide in April 2019. A third stage musical production was initially planned for July 2020 but was delayed to July 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The upcoming exhibition this summer promises to be a highlight for fans, celebrating the franchise’s rich history and looking forward to its exciting future.
