Yaiba: Kaguya's Blade Unsheathed

Samurai Legend Anime Yaiba: Second Season Unveiled for Kaguya Arc

The latest installment of the captivating series, Yaiba: Samurai Legend, has just announced a thrilling continuation. Fans of the original manga and the new television anime adaptation will be delighted to know that a second season is on the horizon. This new season will delve into the highly anticipated “Kaguya Arc.” The final episode of the first season aired on Saturday, leaving viewers eager for more.

The anime, which premiered on April 5, has been a hit with audiences. It aired on YTV, NTV, and their affiliates across Japan at 5:30 p.m., just before the beloved Detective Conan at 6:00 p.m., creating a block of programming known as the “Gōshō Aoyama Hour.” The second cours of the series began on June 28, continuing the momentum of the first.

The streaming availability of Yaiba: Samurai Legend has also been expanding. It is currently available on Netflix in North America, Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand. Additionally, viewers in the United States can enjoy the show on Hulu.

Viz Media has secured the licensing rights for the anime and provides an intriguing overview of the story. Yaiba Kurogane, the protagonist, has dedicated his life to training in the jungle to become a true samurai. Fate brings him back to Japan, where he starts living with the Mine family, who are connected to his father, Kenjuro. Yaiba’s wild and reckless behavior often surprises Sayaka, the Mines’ daughter. One day, Yaiba accompanies Sayaka to school and encounters Takeshi Onimaru, a kendo expert. Their clashes unleash two ancient powers: the Fujinken, the Wind God’s Sword, and the Raijinken, the Thunder God’s Sword. These supernatural blades, dormant for centuries, awaken, revealing a hidden truth.

The anime boasts an impressive cast and crew. Takahiro Hasui, known for his work on Aikatsu Friends! and Mob Psycho 100 II, directed the series at Wit Studio. Tōko Machida, who has worked on 7th Time Loop: The Villainess Enjoys a Carefree Life and The IDOLM@STER, handled the series scripts. Yoshimichi Kameda, the chief animation director for the INU-OH film, served as the character designer and chief animation director. Takeshi Maenami, a key animator for Ni no Kuni and Uma Musume Pretty Derby: Beginning of a New Era, was the sub-character designer and main animator. The music was composed by Yutaka Yamada of Tokyo Ghoul fame and Yoshiaki Dewa from IRODUKU: The World in Colors. Haru Yamada, known for IRODUKU: The World in Colors and Made in Abyss, was the sound director, while Maiko Okada, who worked on Great Pretender razbliuto and After the Rain, was the animation producer.

The original manga, created by Gōshō Aoyama, the mastermind behind Detective Conan, launched in Weekly Shonen Sunday in September 1988 and concluded in December 1993 with 24 compiled volumes. The manga also inspired a 52-episode anime adaptation that aired from April 1993 to April 1994.

Viz Media is also releasing the manga in English, with the first volume hitting the shelves on July 8.
