Shield Hero Anime Announces Fifth Season and Global Game Launch

The Shield Hero franchise is gearing up for an exciting new chapter with the announcement of its fifth season. This news comes hot on the heels of the fourth season’s conclusion, which aired its final episode on a recent Wednesday.

Kadokawa has revealed that the popular anime series, The Rising of The Shield Hero, will be returning for a fifth season. Alongside this announcement, the company has shared an “ultra teaser visual” and a captivating video to build anticipation among fans.


In addition to the new season, Kadokawa has unveiled its first global game project based on The Rising of The Shield Hero. This game, designed for both PC and smartphones, promises to deliver an immersive experience for fans of the series. A teaser visual has also been released to give a sneak peek into what players can expect.

The fourth season of The Rising of The Shield Hero premiered on July 9 and was broadcast on various channels, including AT-X, TOKYO MX, Sun Television, KBS, TV Aichi, Lemino, and d Anime Store. The series was also streamed internationally by Crunchyroll, which provided both the original Japanese audio and an English dub.

The fourth season saw the return of Hitoshi Haga as the director, working at Kinema Citrus. Keigo Koyanagi oversaw the series scripts, while Franziska van Wulfen, Sana Komatsu, and Masahiro Suwa handled character designs. Takanori Yamamoto served as the assistant director, and Kevin Penkin, along with Alfredo Sirica and Natalie Jeffreys, composed the music.

New additions to the cast for this season included Takeo Ōtsuka as Werner and Jirō Saitō as Jaralis.

The Rising of The Shield Hero anime series first premiered with a two-hour special in January 2019 and ran for 25 episodes. The second season debuted in April 2022, followed by the third season in October 2023, which consisted of 12 episodes.

Fans of the series can also enjoy the original novel series by Yusagi Aneko and the manga adaptation by Aiya Kyu, both of which are being released in English by One Peace Books. The novels follow the story of Naofumi Iwatani, an otaku who is summoned to a parallel universe and tasked with saving the world as the Shield Hero.

Kadokawa also launched The Rising of The Shield Hero: Relive The Animation, an RPG Maker MV game based on the franchise, for PC via Steam in 2019. Additionally, Jupiter released PICROSS Records of The Shield Hero, a picture crossword puzzle game for the Nintendo Switch in October 2024.
