The official website for As One, Square Enix and Sunrise‘s feature-length theatrical prequel anime film to Square Enix‘s Starwing Paradox game has released the film’s main trailer.
JO1 boy group member Ruki Shiroiwa plays the protagonist Yō as his voice acting debut. Shiroiwa, under his solo artist name RUKI, also performs the film’s theme song “Meguriboshi” (Wandering Star).
Haruka Shiraishi plays Rako, a robot mechanic on the world of Meguriboshi. Shunsuke Takeuchi plays Vigo, a Pullguard Unit member whom Rako treats like a big brother. Yōko Hikasa plays Kizana, a researcher who holds the key to the story. Ryūhei Maruyama plays Rako’s father Rurowa.
Kobun Shizuno (Detective Conan movies 15-21) directs the film, and Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Evangelion, Nadia – The Secret of Blue Water, Summer Wars) returns from the game to design the characters. The scriptwriters include Shatner Nishida, Kana Matsui, and Masaya Honda, with mechanical design by Ippei Gyōbu (Gundam: Reconguista in G, Synduality). The animation is handled by Honoo and Studio GOONEYS.
The game Starwing Paradox launched in Japanese arcades in November 2018 and ended service in October 2021. It features 16-player team battles in cockpit-style cabinets for an immersive experience.
Sunrise (Bandai Namco Filmworks) produced the animation featured in the game.
The story unfolds on the distant planet Meguriboshi, divided between two warring kingdoms, Kō Country A Slegga and Va Led Sei Kingdom, due to their conflict over the life-energy “Hoshinochi” (Star Blood). The powerful mecha units known as “Ae Rial” utilize a “Rearide System” to transmit planetary data. Their true potential is unlocked when a skilled knight partners with an alien pilot. Earth becomes crucial as its inhabitants show exceptional compatibility with the Ae Rial.
