The anime film scene continues to captivate audiences worldwide, with several notable releases making significant waves at the box office. Here’s a rundown of the top anime releases that have been drawing crowds and breaking records.

### Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc

The film adaptation of the Reze Arc from Tatsuki Fujimoto’s popular manga, Chainsaw Man, has maintained its dominance at the Japanese box office. In its seventh weekend, from October 24-26, the film remained at the top spot, selling 294,000 tickets and earning 440,709,600 yen (approximately USD 2.86 million). Including the Culture Day holiday on Monday, the film has sold a total of 5.21 million tickets, amassing a cumulative total of 7.9 billion yen (approximately USD 51.30 million).

The film opened at number one, displacing Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle – Akaza Sairai, which had held the top spot for nine consecutive weeks. In its opening weekend, Chainsaw Man sold 807,000 tickets, earning 1,251,178,500 yen (approximately USD 8.46 million).

Sony Pictures Entertainment has secured worldwide theatrical rights for the film and opened it in theaters in the United States on October 24. Reina Ueda stars as Reze in the film.

### Sumikko Gurashi: The Sky Kingdom and the Two Children

The fourth anime film in the Sumikko Gurashi franchise, titled Eiga Sumikko Gurashi: Sora no ลŒkoku to Futari no Ko (The Sky Kingdom and the Two Children), opened on Friday and quickly climbed to the fourth spot in its first weekend. The film sold 150,000 tickets, earning 183,974,840 yen (approximately USD 1.19 million) from Friday to Sunday. By Monday, the total ticket sales reached 208,000, with earnings of 253 million yen (approximately USD 1.64 million).

Yoshihiko Inohara and Manami Honjล return as narrators for the film, which is directed by Naomi Iwata at Fanworks. Takashi Sumita, who also worked on the first and third Sumikko Gurashi films, is the scriptwriter. Kaori Hino serves as the art director, and Kaela Kimura performs the theme song “Kimi no Kasa” (Your Umbrella).

### Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle

The first film in the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle trilogy, Akaza Sairai, experienced a drop from the third to the fifth spot in its 16th weekend. The film earned 225,220,100 yen (approximately USD 1.46 million) from Friday to Sunday, bringing its cumulative total to 37,451,746,900 yen (approximately USD 243 million).

As of September 15, the film had sold a total of 23,042,671 tickets, earning 33,056,606,000 yen (approximately USD 224 million). This impressive performance made it the second highest-earning film of all time at the Japanese box office, surpassing Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli’s 2001 film Spirited Away.

The film is now the highest-earning anime film of all time worldwide, as well as the highest-earning Japanese film of all time worldwide. The previous record holder, Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, earned 40.75 billion yen (approximately USD 277 million) in Japan.

### 5 Centimeters Per Second Live-Action Film

The live-action adaptation of Makoto Shinkai’s anime film 5 Centimeters per Second dropped from the second to the sixth spot in its fourth weekend. The film earned 151,955,300 yen (approximately USD 987,000) from Friday to Sunday, with a cumulative total of 1,722,066,700 yen (approximately USD 11.18 million).

The film opened in Japan on October 10, with SixTONES member Hokuto Matsumura starring as Sลta Munakata. Spoon is producing the film, and TOHO is distributing it. Yoshiyuki Okuyama directed the film, Ayako Suzuki wrote the script, and Ayatake Ezaki composed the music. Kenshi Yonezu performs the theme song “1991.”

The original anime film, which opened in Japan in 2007, is split into three individual segments directed, written, and storyboarded by Shinkai. Tenmon composed the music for the anime.

### Princess Mononoke 4K Restoration Screenings

The 4K restoration screenings of Studio Ghibli’s Princess Mononoke dropped from the fourth to the eighth spot in its second weekend. The film earned 207,868,000 yen (approximately USD 1.35 million) from Friday to Sunday, with a total earnings of 638,241,500 yen (approximately USD 4.15 million).

### Zombie Land Saga: Yumeginga Paradise

The anime film project Zombie Land Saga: Yumeginga Paradise (Dream Galactic Paradise) fell off the top 10 list in its second weekend.

### Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans – Urรฐr Hunt Special Edition

The standalone anime release for Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans – Urรฐr Hunt Special Edition: Path of the Little Challenger, a spinoff from the Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans television anime series, opened outside of the top 10 but earned 108,430,930 yen (approximately USD 704,300) in its first three days.
