The highly anticipated CG anime project, Kaiju Decode, produced by Tsuburaya Productions and Toei Animation, has taken a significant step forward. The official website for the project has unveiled a captivating concept movie for Kaiju Decode: The Ring of Aidara (Kaiju Decode: Aidara no Yubiwa). This new addition to the franchise promises to delve deeper into the enigmatic world of kaiju and the girls who navigate it.

The anime stars Aya Yamane as Maru, a young boy from the bustling City, and Karin Takahashi as Coco, a brave girl from the Aidara tribe who resides in the perilous Zone, a place teeming with mysterious beasts. The story unfolds in Sakai, Osaka Prefecture, where these characters will face thrilling adventures and unravel the secrets of the kaiju.
The creative team behind Kaiju Decode: The Ring of Aidara is nothing short of stellar. Katsuie Shibata, known for his work on Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Isekai, is crafting the screenplay. Masayuki Gotou, renowned for his monster designs in SSSS.Dynazenon, is responsible for the kaiju designs in this project. Sei Nakashima, a Hollywood CG art director who has worked on Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, is the character designer for Maru. Masatsugu Saito, known for his work on Cyborg 009 Call of Justice, is the designer for Coco. The teaser visual for the project was illustrated by JNTHED, known for Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury.
The theme of the project is “a story about kaiju and girls,” and the studios are aiming to captivate a global audience with this unique blend of fantasy and adventure. The concept movie sets the stage for an exciting journey into the world of kaiju, where the boundaries between myth and reality blur.
In December 2021, a full anime short for Kaiju Decode was streamed on the Tsuburaya Imagination website. On the same day, a VR anime short titled Kaiju Decode: First Contact was released for Oculus Quest. Both of these shorts are considered the “first part” of the overall project, laying the groundwork for the upcoming series.
The anime short was directed by S/N at Arect, with Tetsuya Yamada writing the script and Tadahiko Inoue composing the music. The voice cast includes Nobunaga Shimazaki as Rei, Marika Kono as Miru, Mayumi Shintani as Zora, and Aya Yamane as Real Rei. The project is produced by Kichi Noguchi and Masahiro Onda, both of whom have extensive experience in the anime industry. Noguchi is known for his work on Expelled from Paradise and KADO – The Right Answer, while Onda has been involved in various Tsuburaya Productions projects, including Ultraman Zero: The Revenge of Belial and SSSS.Gridman.
