Unveiling the Power: Assassin Anime Debuts with Same-Day Dub

The world of anime is buzzing with excitement as Crunchyroll has announced that it will begin streaming the television anime adaptation of Matsuri Akai’s popular light novel series, “My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s,” on October 6. This highly anticipated series will premiere on the same day as its anime debut, ensuring fans worldwide can enjoy it simultaneously.

The English dub cast includes a stellar lineup of voice actors. Jad Saxton is directing the dub, with Susie Nixon producing. Audrey Drake Rigg is handling the English adaptation, ensuring the nuances of the original work are preserved. Andrew Tipps is the mixer, and Tina Son is the engineer, both contributing to the high-quality audio experience.

The anime will air on TV Tokyo at 25:30 JST on October 6, which translates to October 7 at 1:30 a.m. for those in different time zones. Following the broadcast, it will be available on the d Anime Store and ABEMA streaming services. Crunchyroll will stream the anime worldwide, excluding Asia, making it accessible to a global audience.

Nobuyoshi Habara, known for his work on the Fafner series and the Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202 film, is directing the anime at Sunrise. Kunihiko Okada is in charge of the series scripts, bringing his extensive experience from works like The Demon Sword Master of Excalibur Academy and From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman. Character designs are handled by Hirona Okada and Kaori Saito, both renowned for their work on Gundam series. Masahiro Yamane is designing the monsters, Mitsuru Ishihara is the main animator, and Satoshi Igarashi is composing the music, ensuring a rich and immersive viewing experience.

The opening theme song, “ISSEN” (Flash of Light), is performed by the virtual girls duo VESPERBELL, while the ending theme song, “Like Gravity,” is performed by BONNIE PINK.

The light novel series, published by Seven Seas Entertainment’s Airship imprint, follows the story of Oda Akira, a seemingly ordinary individual who finds himself in a fantasy world. His high starting stats and mysterious circumstances lead him to uncover royal secrets and make powerful enemies. With the help of the elven spirit medium Amelia, Akira seeks to set things right and exact his revenge.

Akai began serializing the original story on the “Shลsetsuka ni Narล” (Let’s Become Novelists) website in January 2017. The first volume was published in print by OVERLAP in November 2017, with illustrations by Tลzai. The fifth volume was released on September 25.

Hiroyuki Aigamo launched the manga adaptation on OVERLAP’s Comic Gardo website in July 2018. The manga went on hiatus in 2020 after Aigamo was diagnosed with endometrial cancer but resumed in 2022 following his recovery. Seven Seas Entertainment also publishes the manga adaptation, with the sixth volume set to release on November 25.
