Exclusive Bonus Episode of “Natsume’s Friends” Season 7 Now Streaming on Crunchyroll

Fans of the beloved anime series “Natsume’s Friends” have a new treat to enjoy. The seventh season’s fifth Blu-ray and DVD volume includes an exclusive bonus episode, titled “The Outstretched Hand.” This episode is now available for streaming on Crunchyroll, offering both English subtitles and an English dub.

The seventh season of “Natsume’s Friends” made its debut on TV Tokyo and its affiliates in October 2024. Crunchyroll has been streaming the series in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS, and India, ensuring that fans worldwide can enjoy the latest adventures of Natsume.

The original manga, “Natsume’s Book of Friends,” created by Yuki Midorikawa, first appeared in Hakusensha’s LaLa DX magazine in June 2003. Since 2007, it has been serialized in LaLa magazine. The ongoing series is being released in English by Viz Media, making it accessible to a global audience.

The story revolves around Natsume, a young man who has the unique ability to see yōkai from a young age. Unfortunately, this gift isolates him from both humans and yōkai. One day, he inherits a Yūjin-Chō (“Book of Friends”) from his grandmother, a book filled with contracts that trap yōkai. As various yōkai appear, seeking release or vengeance, Natsume strives to help them, often putting himself in harm’s way.

The anime series has a rich history, with the sixth season premiering in April 2017. This season consisted of 11 episodes and two OVAs, all of which were streamed by Crunchyroll as they aired.

In addition to the anime series, the franchise has expanded into films. “Natsume Yujin-cho the Movie: Ephemeral Bond” premiered in September 2018 and was later released on Blu-ray Disc by Aniplex of America. The film also had its U.S. premiere at the Anime NYC convention in November 2018, offering fans a unique cinematic experience.

Another film, “Natsume’s Book of Friends: The Stone Waker and the Strange Visitor,” opened in Japan in January 2021. Funimation streamed this film, allowing international viewers to enjoy the latest installment in the series.

The franchise has also ventured into gaming with its first adaptation, “Natsume Yūjin-Chō: Hazuki no Shirushi” (Natsume’s Book of Friends: August Chronicle). This game launched for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam on June 5, marking a new chapter in the series’ multimedia presence.

The exclusive bonus episode, “The Outstretched Hand,” is a must-watch for fans of the series. It provides a deeper look into the world of Natsume and his interactions with the supernatural, offering both entertainment and emotional depth.
