Cyborg 009 Anime Scriptwriter Masaki Tsuji, Artist Masato Hayase to Launch New Cyborg 009 Manga - News

New Cyborg 009 Manga by Scriptwriter Masaki Tsuji and Artist Masato Hayase Announced – News

Manga adapts 1968 anime’s “Taiheiyō no Bōrei” episode

In the May issue of Akita Shoten’s Champion RED magazine, which was unveiled on March 19, it was revealed that scriptwriter Masaki Tsuji (known for the Cyborg 009 anime) and artist Masato Hayase (renowned for works like Genma Taisen and 8 Man vs Cyborg 009) will be launching a new manga titled “Cyborg 009 Taiheiyō no Bōrei” (Cyborg 009: Ghost of the Pacific) in the magazine’s upcoming issue on April 19. This manga serves as an adaptation of the episode “Taiheiyō no Bōrei” from the 1968 Cyborg 009 anime series.

The narrative revolves around 009 and his fellow cyborg warriors as they engage in a battle against the former Japanese naval forces and their supposedly sunken battleships, the Yamato and Nagato, which mysteriously resurface in the Pacific Ocean, launching attacks on various regions.

Author Kyoichi Nanatsuki (known for works like Project ARMS and Genma Taisen Rebirth) and Hayase recently concluded their crossover manga “8 Man vs Cyborg 009” in May 2023. This manga debuted in Champion RED in July 2020, and Akita Shoten released its two compiled book volumes simultaneously in July 2023.

Shōtarō Ishinomori’s Cyborg 009 manga has been the inspiration behind television anime series in 1968, 1979, and 2001, as well as films in 1966, 1967, and 1980. More recent adaptations include the 009 Re:Cyborg movie in 2012 and the Cyborg 009 Call of Justice movie in 2016. Additionally, there was a crossover original video anime (OVA) with Devilman in 2015.

Tsuguo Okazaki launched the Cyborg 009 Bgooparts Delete manga, based on Ishinomori’s original series, in July 2019, with the manga concluding in September 2022.
