posted on by Egan Loo

First cinematic act of a two-part symphony arrives October 3

The digital stage lights have illuminated as the Girls Band Cry anime portal unveiled the full trailer for Seishun Kyōsōkyoku (Rhapsody of Youth), the opening movement in its upcoming cinematic diptych. Like twin spotlights on a darkened stage, this and its companion piece Naa, Mirai. (Hey, Future.) will weave together the anime’s narrative threads. The curtain also rose on the key visual for this first installment:

This same visual will grace the third wave of MoviTicke pre-order artifacts, set to debut July 18 across Major, Movie Walker Store, and Animate digital storefronts. Each ticket ascends to collector’s status with its accompanying acrylic figurine.

The original vocal ensemble reassembles for this encore performance, maintaining their roles:

  • RINA channeling Nina Iseri
  • Yuri embodying Momoka Kawaragi
  • Mirei as Subaru Awa
  • Natsu voicing Tomo Ebizuka
  • Syuri becoming Rupa

Kazuo Sakai (Love Live! Sunshine!!, Mushi-Uta) resumes directorial command at Toei Animation, with Jukki Hanada (Love Live! Sunshine!!) scripting the score of words. nari Teshima continues shaping visual identities, while musical architect Kenji Tamai oversees the auditory landscape. Yūsuke Tanaka (agehasprings) returns to paint background music across emotional canvas. The technological wizardry of Jae Hoon Jung merges with new digital artisan Daiki Nakazawa under Toei‘s distribution banner.

Girls Band Cry 2-film compilationThe studio’s manifesto echoes:

Our protagonist severs ties with academia mid-stride, chasing dreams through Tokyo’s concrete jungle.
Another soul tastes friendship’s bitter ashes, adrift in emotional limbo.
A third warrior survives parental abandonment through nightly battles with part-time labor.
The universe deals us losing hands repeatedly.
Our scripts never match reality’s chaotic improvisation.
Yet we cling to passions that refuse to fade.
We scream our truths through melody, certain our tribe exists somewhere in the noise.

The television odyssey first premiered April 2024, unfolding across thirteen chapters. Toei Animation unleashed the English incarnation digitally in North American territories August 13. Crunchyroll began its encore streaming November 6.

Backstage developments surfaced last July when performers Mirei and Natsu stepped into temporary silence for health restoration. The remaining trio—Rina, Yuri, and Syuri—continue their vocal crusade undiminished.
