The digital tapestry of Type-Moon‘s universe expands as studio BB’s Fate/Extra Record undergoes a metamorphosis—its reimagining of Marvelous Entertainment‘s Fate/Extra PSP classic now lands in spring 2026. Director Kazuya Niinō confessed on X that capturing every character’s voice—no matter how minor—proved more time-consuming than anticipated, marking his first foray into fully-voiced game development.
Like a treasure chest awaiting its destiny, pre-orders for two lavish editions unlocked on Tuesday. Gilded with a triple-disc OST, lore compendium, handpicked vinyl suite, and a shimmering acrylic diorama, the Ultra Special Edition bears an exclusive character print stamped with a unique serial number. Its sibling, the Special Edition, mirrors these riches minus the numbered artwork.
The game’s launch, initially destined for 2025, now shifts to new horizons on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Steam.
First teased in 2020 as a decade-laden tribute to Fate/Extra, the project initially held its platforms and timeline close to its chest.
At the helm stands Kazuya Nino, studio BB’s director and veteran of the original Fate/Extra and Etrian Odyssey. Arco Wada breathes life anew into characters once more.
The 2010 PSP original, forged by Marvelous Entertainment and Type-Moon, crossed oceans via Aksys Games in November 2011. Its shadow sibling, Fate/Extra CCC, emerged in March 2013, both weaving an alternate sci-fi thread in the Fate cosmos—fondly dubbed the “Extraverse.”
This digital battleground inspired SHAFT‘s 2018 anime Fate/Extra Last Encore, later embraced by Netflix that June. The saga deepened with July 2018’s Fate/Extra Last Encore: Illustrias Tendōsetsu special.
The Extraverse sprawled wider with Marvelous’ 2016 Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star, reborn as Fate/EXTELLA LINK by 2019. Koei Tecmo then carved Fate/Samurai Remnant into reality in late September 2023, igniting blades worldwide.
