The highly anticipated new arc of the Kaiju No. 8 anime is set to begin on September 20. Fans can look forward to the “Gunpatsu Saigai-hen” (Cluster Disasters arc), which will kick off in the second season’s 10th episode, marking the 22nd episode overall. The second season of Kaiju No. 8 premiered on TV Tokyo and its affiliated channels on July 19. Viewers around the world can enjoy the season in real-time on X (formerly Twitter) as it airs in Japan. Additionally, Crunchyroll is streaming the season with both English subtitles and an English dub. The original side story episode, “Hoshina’s Day Off,” aired on Japanese TV on July 5 and was also streamed on X/Twitter worldwide in real-time.
The second season introduces new cast members and features exciting musical contributions. Norwegian singer-songwriter Aurora, known for her longstanding love for anime, performs the opening theme song “You Can’t Run From Yourself.” The American band OneRepublic, who previously performed the ending theme for the first season, returns for the second season with the song “Beautiful Colors.”
Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon, a compilation film of the first season, opened in 32 theaters in Japan for a limited three-week run starting on March 28. This film included the new original episode “Hoshina’s Day Off.”
The anime’s first season debuted on TV Tokyo in April 2024 and ran for 12 episodes. Crunchyroll streamed the anime with English subtitles and an English dub, while it also aired on X/Twitter worldwide in real-time as it broadcasted in Japan.
The manga, which serves as the foundation for the anime, is published in English by Viz Media both digitally and physically. Shueisha also publishes the manga digitally on its MANGA Plus service under the title Monster #8. The story follows a man who, after being thrust into an unexpected situation, transforms into a monster and pursues his lifelong dream.
Matsumoto launched the manga in July 2020 on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ website. The manga concluded on July 18.
